Embracing your super powers

Hello Friends,

I have a confession. For Mother’s Day this year I asked Dino to cancel is gracious gift of a beautiful bouquet of flowers, and instead, fund my book addiction. He graciously complied, and bought me a treasure chest of books off my Amazon wish list. The book I’ve been reading this week is Danielle LaPorte’s hot new release, The Firestarter Sessions
Besides the great typography and graphic design, I love her voice. She speaks her truth openly, and fiercely. She’s not worried about what people might think about her, she knows her super powers and she’s using them.

Early in the book she talks about embracing your super powers. I was immediately drawn to this because Dino and I talk about the very same thing in our live events, and we ask our Marital Revolution radio guests that same question at the end of every call. We are kindred spirits, Danielle and I.

Danielle gives 4 great tips for finding and using your super powers, and below is my summary of them.

1. Approve of your weakness. Admit what you stink at and be ok with it. When you do, you are being authentic to yourself, and more accessible to others. Give yourself permission to pursue what you’re a genius at, and let others support you in doing the rest.
2. Work your passion- many people are looking for their “big life purpose”, when becoming YOU is your purpose! You are already in the middle of it. What lights your fire is your purpose. Your life purpose is whatever you declare it to be. So declare what you are passionate about and start rocking your genius.
3. Invest in your second nature- meaning, unleash your inner voice, evoke your inner guide, and follow that. “Remember who you were before the world told you who you should be.”  (I particularly love this one)
4. Normal is boring- Trailblazers, game changers, and legacy leaders were not normal people. They were bold, eccentric, even obsessive. They rocked their genius with rabid dedication, unapologetic of the trail they blazed. When you let your genius take flight, it’ll come naturally and look easy, but never will it look boring.

Unleash your super powers.

Be the best version of you possible.

Do what makes your heart sing.

That’s my 5 min. sermon for today. I’m climbing down off my soapbox now.

Why, you might ask, am I sharing today about super powers? Thank you for asking. You see, I have another confession to make. Dino and I have super powers that we haven’t been using. We’ve kept them suppressed because they didn’t fit the “normal” model. We’ve been running our lives and our business they way people think we “should” instead of how we crave it to be. But at the beginning of this year, we chose differently; we decided to embrace our passions and our superpowers.

For the past few months we’ve been feverishly creating & expanding our vision of The Business of Marriage to include our other love of travel and reaching a global audience. We want to strengthen families nationwide through our speaking and coaching, and give more of our time to volunteering to causes and charities that light our fire. And we want to give our kids an opportunity to learn about the world, up close and personal. Living our passion has led us to packing up our life and taking it on the open road. What?? I mean Watt!!!! You go, my friends!! I’m so happy I found your blog. I’ll be watching and cheering from this growingly restless comfort zone! hahahaa Thanks for the feedback on Danielle’s book. I’d seen Maria Forleo endorse it, and was curious. How fun that your kids are small and the perfect age to embark on such an adventure. I can’t say I have any regrets but with the second child graduating high school next year, we feel something new is in store, somehow. Bless you. -Gina
